We have had to help a few customers recently whose WordPress sites were hacked, and now WordPress security software provider Sucuri is saying “brute force” attacks are at an all-time high.
In these attacks, hackers try to hack passwords by trying different logins thousands of times a minute.
The best way to protect yourself is to have a strong password and to monitor your site. Avoid “admin,” “password,” “123456” and anything with your name or your company’s name.
You should also make sure your themes and versions are updated to the most recent release, as these updates often include security upgrades.
You can tell if you are under attack if your server’s memory skyrockets and causes problems. You can also sign up for a number of plugins that alert you in case of strange activity in your account. Learn more on the WordPress support page.
